YESTERDAY, PEOPLE ALL over Northern Ireland turned out to vote in the UK general election. The DUP emerged as the big winners, taking 10 seats in total. (Sinn Féin won seven seats and one Independent MP was also elected.)
The party are now expected to back Theresa May as she seeks to form a government.
Such a victory calls for a celebration. Pints, Lionel Richie tunes, chips – you know yourself.
The DUP, however, are a little more moderate when it comes to letting off steam, as evidenced by this tweet from Ian Paisley. The North Antrim MP shared some photos from the post-election party last night and, well, it was all rather tame.
“DUP post election party has commenced,” he wrote in a tweet, accompanied by what appeared to be three photos of a late night bake sale masquerading as an after party.
As you can see, there was no fizzy wine in sight. Just people drinking cups of tea (or coffee, if they were really daring.)
Steady on, lads! Don’t overdo it on the traybakes, whatever you do. It won’t be worth it in the morning.
What’s this? A cake and a tin of biscuits? Don’t you know you’re not supposed to mix your sweets?
(For the record, this cake looks very delicious.)
Ain’t no party like a DUP Party ’cause a DUP Party has one two litre carton of milk to last for the night, so please don’t overdo it when you’re pouring into your tea, okay guys?
Let’s hope the heads are today, wha’?
